Install PyDev in Eclipse

Tested with Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) on Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex).

Installation

In Eclipse

  • Help -> Install New Software...
  • Add... button -> Name: PyDev, Location: http://pydev.org/updates
  • Below check PyDev, “Next...” button, accept the licence terms and launch the installation

Configuration

Interpreter

To create a Python project, an interpreter needs to be set first:

  • Window -> Preferences
  • Pydev -> Interpreter - Python
  • New... button -> Interpreter Name: Python, Interpreter Executable: /usr/bin/python
  • Apply button

Editor Colors

The comments by default are quite unreadable (light grey) and overall it looks pretty ugly (to me). One solution is to adopt TextMate's colors.

  • Window -> Preferences
  • Pydev -> Editor
  • Comments: #0066FF
  • Strings: #036A07 (uncheck Italic)
  • Decorators: #0C450D (uncheck Italic)
  • Function Name: #0000A2
  • Keywords: check Bold
